What’s Up Bangalore takes a tour of the French luxury furniture brand, Roche Bobois’ store in the city.
The luxury market is booming in the city with the foray of many international brands, and Bangalore keeps up with this trend with the entry of Roche Bobois. A renowned French luxury furniture brand that opened it impressive store spread across 7500 sq.ft in the city centre.
Roche Bobois flagship store in Mumbai was launched in 2014, and today the brands boosts of high profile clients ranging from business honchos to Bollywood celebrities. Skipping the usual trail of opening stores in Metros like Delhi, Hyderabad or Chennai, the furniture brand chose Bangalore because it is one of the world’s leading technology hubs. The swanky showroom allows customer to first hand opportunity to experience the French Art de Vivre or Way of Life.
Samvit Tara, Managing Director, Roche Bobois India, explains, “The brand is synonymous with innovativeness, quality craftsmanship, and sophisticated furniture design. We have artistes like famous car designer Sacha Lakic, fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier along with Sonia Rykiel, Missoni and Ungaro exclusively designing furniture for Roche Bobois.”
The store has two collections – Les Contemporains (Contemporary) and Nouveaux Classic (Classic). The contemporary collection features sleek and refreshing furniture, while the classic collection focuses on traditional designs and textures. Customisation and creativity are the key elements incorporated in every piece of furniture. For reference, a Lady Bee Armchair can be customised in 150 colours based on client’s preferences and the chair has been cleverly designed for maximum comfort. Similarly, any piece of furniture is available in any detail, choice of dimension, colours, leathers, woods and finishes.
The showroom has living room furniture – Sofas, armchairs, cocktail tables, TV units, cabinets and occasional furniture. Dining room – chairs, stools, benches and tables, Bedroom – beds and wardrobes, and Decor Accessories – lighting, cushion, rugs and home furnishings.
“We do not sell functional furniture,” exhorts Samvit, when asked by the e-commerce boom. “Roche Bobois caters to the niche segment, who appreciates only finest in life”, he adds. Hence the brand is unfazed by its contemporaries and does not believe in diluting its brand image for profits. So be prepared to shell out big bucks, if you are planning to buy furniture from this luxury store.
The furniture is designed in factories spread across France and later assembled in the respective outlets. The collection is changed twice a year and to maintain exclusivity the furniture designs are not replicated. It takes about three months to design Contemporary furniture and four months for a classic piece. Samvit informs that 80% of the sofas are made in Italy because the country in known for its fine leather and craftsmanship.
The hot pick of the season is Mah Jong by Missoni Home. A modular low seating sofa comes with combining seat/floor cushions, back and corner cushions that are hand sown. The entire collection can be upholstered in fashion fabrics in bright and eclectic colours.
The brand has a network of 250 exclusive stores worldwide and aims to add another 15 new stores soon. After Bangalore, Roche Bobois plans to set up showrooms in Delhi, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai.
